  • Anxiety

Anxiety can have physical symptoms but is based on fear or a worry that you cannot understand or manage. The feelings can be strong. Panic attacks are one manifestation of this where you feel a racing heart of other symptoms in your body like feeling faint or dizzy or nausea or stomach cramps or other random aches and pains.

  • Depression

Depression can have a variety of reasons but it means your energy is low and you have very little motivation or you are tearful more often than is usual. The reasons for this are generally to do with your life situation either present or past and you could be experiencing this at work, in a relationship or in a new challenge in life. The key generally to feeling better is to try and understand and give a shape to why you may be feeling like this.

  • Post-natal Depression (PND)

Post-natal Depression (PND) is a form of depression that affects more than 1 in 10 women, and can also affect partners and fathers. Symptomatically speaking, it is very similar to depression, but occurs within the first year after giving birth. If you are worried about yourself or your partner, speak to your Health Visitor or GP to discuss the possibility of PND and treatment options. For more information, read the NHS webpage. There are also several charities which can offer guidance and support, such as the PANDAS Foundation.
